Calgary 2012 Sweet City Woman LipDub tomorrow at 9 am

I can't wait to see the Calgary 2012 Sweet City Woman LipDub! It comes out tomorrow at 9:00 am at this Youtube LInk.

Here is the link - try it 9 am tomorrow! Help it go viral!!!

http://www.youtube.com/user/Calgary2012cc?feature=mhee

The Sandhurst family was in section #4 under the fabulous leadership of Alice Nelson. You should see us quickly after

the crowd turns right on to McLeod Trail near the beginning of the song at "Bon C'est Bon" lyrics as the camera turns to go north on the sidewalk on McLeod Trail.

Geoff crosses riding his unicycle in front of the camera in the distance.

If you see the roller derby gals swinging each other around, look to the right and we should be beside them. The camera zoomed by us really fast though on a golf cart - so the camera might have missed us.

Kierra is walking on blue globe, with boring me in red standing beside her waving.

Caelin is riding on three wheeled unicycle just behind or beside us us, but he thinks he might be hidden behind a tree.

It was an amazing day, and it was so exciting to be part of it. It took 4 takes and they picked number 3 as the best one. Its one continuous shot. What a sweet city of citizens celebrating to Sweet City Woman by the Stampeders, Calgary's very first international hit!
It was great fun to do this with Alice Nelson and crew and all the section four volunteers -  Literacy Alberta, The Roller Derby Girls, Cookie Monster and the Cookie, Cary and Jay from Calgary Circus and the fabulous individuals of section 4 - you rock!  So much fun!

Congratulations to Calgary 2012 and their amazing LipDub Team!

Suburban Calgary Artist Network

The South Calgary Artist Network is changing our name! For clarity and to connect with all the exciting suburban arts opportunities in Calgary, our name is now the Suburban Calgary Artist Network (SCAN).

Here is how we have grown so far....

1.  At least once a month for 10 months of the year (Sept - June) we will have a chance to meet up at an arts venue (any place that in some way supports the arts and is located in a suburb of Calgary).  We will take the July and August off, but will still post info we hear about suburban happenings etc. when possible.

2.  The date and time of the meet up will vary dependant on the venue we are picking to visit.  This will allow us to accommodate the  schedules of different venues and their special events.

3.  We  are happy to post and share information about venues/happenings and events in all suburbs as we hear about them, or you tell us about them.  You are welcome to comment on the blog and make suggestions of great events/happenings/venues in the suburbs to check out.

4.  The format is casual, family friendly when ever possible, and is intended as an opportunity for artists and art enthusiasts of all disciplines, abilities, and ages to meet up for friendship, support, fun and learning. Sometimes venues will be free and sometimes there may be a charge by the venue.  We will post any costs for venue or parking on the blog.

Ideas on taking painting lessons

We were asked about ideas on where to take painting lessons.  Because it's not our area of expertise, we are writing down what we know and welcoming anyone to add comments with ideas of where to take lessons in Calgary.  Of course, if you know of a great place to travel to and take lessons, we would love to hear about that too.

I do receive Robert Genn's twice weekly letter, and although we have never met, and I am not a painter, I enjoy the wisdom in these emails and looking at all the links for workshops etc. offered by Robert Genn and others on the painters keys website. The link is below.
http://painterskeys.com/

My son enjoyed classes at Swinton's in the past. Swinton's has wonderful instructors for all ages and a there are workshops, classes and the Friday night demos with a glass of wine.  http://www.swintonsart.com/

The Calgary School of Art is within Cactus Art supplies. We don't know anyone that has attended, but we enjoy the artwork on display when we stop in.
http://www.calgaryschoolofart.ca/about-csa.html.

The City of Calgary has many art programs  http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Recreation/Pages/Arts-and-culture/Home.aspx?redirect=/arts

Indefinate Arts http://www.indefinitearts.com/programs.php is a remarkable art centre in the community of Fairview for adults with developmental disabilities. There are also volunteering opportunities.

Both of our children take lessons with Jill Hobson. Excellent instruction and incredibly gifted teacher. http://www.jillhobson.ca/

Alberta College of Art / U of C /Mount Royal might have things of interest as well in continuing ed or taking credit courses.

My lunch is over, and time to go....so here is the start of a list - please do add on!

The Format of the South Calgary Artist Network

The Artist Network is informal and all encompassing.  We encourage you to bring business cards and pen and paper.  If you want to stay in contact with someone, or jot down information that you learned - its all up to you.   There are no minutes being taken.

If you have information that you would like to share on the blog, just send it to me - a recipe for a great homemade clay? an organization that the members showed interest in?   I am happy to post it on the blog - just send it to me at cgsandhurst@shaw.ca with SCAN in the subject.

I just learned Dreamweaver this week and there will be a website in the upcoming months.

If you want to keep in touch and be emailed reminders of meetings, then email me at cgsandhurst@shaw.ca with SCAN in the subject.  I will not share anyone's email and will send out blind cc reminders.  The next meeting is April 19th 6:30-8:30.

We want to keep the network informal and easy an opportunity to make new friends and an incubator for cross pollination of artists at all levels and disciplines.  Make a friend, get a great idea, brainstorm a solution, you never know what will happen at the South Calgary Artist Network.

The tea and coffee usually get thrown out, so we are just having water provided at the next meeting - if you are a coffee or tea drinker - let me know and we will have it ready for you ;)

Acadia Jane's Walk - calling for Acadia volunteer community participants!

All current and former Acadia Residents/Employers/Employees/Organizations/Participants/etc

I am the walk leader for the ACADIA Community "Jane's Walk" on May 5th at 10:00 am (tentative time). If you or anyone you know would like to participate in the creating an amazing walk - showcasing Acadia's history, culture, heritage during the 2 hour walk, please let me know. I would like us to wow Calgary with our wonderful over 10,000 strong community members.

Did you know that Acadia residents were instrumental in the formation of Fish Creek Park? Do you know other Acadia Trivia?

I would love to hear about it and make a wonderful interesting, spicy, walk!

For example - Do you love drama - would you like to put on a little 2 minute play about something Acadian?

Do you know an Acadia resident past or present that has made an important contribution to society?

How about a heritage tree or house or building?

Are you an Singer/musician that could serenade us for 2 minutes at a rest stop along our walk? Looking for ideas!

Are you a visual artist that could set up a little show on your lawn?

Are you a dancer and want to do a 2 minute performance in the park?

Acadia is diversity - so many cultures and heritages to showcase - if you have costumes, crafts, stories, that you would like to share, we would love to stop by on our walk.

Do you have a favourite shortcut, nature walk through Acadia? Do you know where the hidden playgrounds are, or know about a special quiet corner?  If you have great ideas for mapping out an interesting route, please let me know.

Are you a performance artist that would like to perform?

Do you have a business in Acadia and would like to have the walk stop by or set up a display or?

I am looking for your ideas!  Please let me know the Acadia community connection.  Email your ideas to cgsandhurst@gmail.com

First Meeting of the South Calgary Artist Network

Fish Creek Library is the home for the new South Area Artist Network.

We are meeting on the 3rd Thursday of each month starting Feb 16 at 6:30-8:30 pm. All Welcome!

Its intended to be open to all artists and people interested in the arts.  You don't have to live in the south of calgary, its just a south location.  All Art disciplines, all ages (minors supervised by an adult), and anyone interested in the arts.  Informal meetings, opportunities to share experiences, skills, and get to know each other.

Tea/Coffee provided.

I have set up a facebook page also.

Inspiration for this group is the Calgary Arts Development Artist Network and we will keep in touch with the CADA group.

What is it?

How Suburban Calgary Artist Network came to be:

An artistic family of four and a desire to stop being isolated lead Geoff and Corinne Sandhurst to embark on an incredible journey to get to know other artists.

Step One - Attend Something - Calgary Arts Development - Arts Champions Congress September 2011 planted the seed. Arts Champions from all over the city met and inspired each other. We never thought of ourselves as Arts Champions, but CADA told all attendees we were - so we believed. Thank you!

Step Two - Try something completely different - Mark Hopkins - We Should Know Each Other Event #85, October 16th, 2011 showed how easy and wonderful it is to meet strangers and become friends. We were surprised that anyone would like to know us! They would like to know you too!

Step 3: Calgary Arts Development Artist Network 1st meeting November 24, 2011 - sparked our desire to keep networking and find a way to include our children, have free parking and be close to our home in the south. We wanted a venue that was open to all interested in art, of all disciplines, of all ages and abilities, accessible, and informal, and inexpensive and supportive of the arts. A Calgary Public Library Librarian (I will find her business card - I think she was from the Downtown Branch) suggested Fish Creek Library.

Step 4: Make a cold call: Donna Bedry of the Fish Creek Library and all the staff have amazed us with their enthusiasm, love of arts and their warm welcome.

Step 5: Venture out to more venues in the South that welcome and support the arts at least once a month, for 10 months of the year - Sept - June. Time and date specified each month on the blog. We hope you can join us!
